Texture

I've been following a site called I Heart Faces for awhile now and today I decided to enter a contest. Let me start off by saying in no way do I expect to win, but I still wanted to enter a photo for the fun of it. Learning this stuff was my New Year's resolution and unless I practice I'm not going to learn it, right? The challenge for this week is "texture" and, being brand new to Photoshop Elements and my camera, this certainly was a challenge. Honestly, I have no idea what I'm doing. I was able to figure out how to get the texture over the photo but removing it from Maggie's face? No clue how to do that in Elements. I'm not going to complain though because working on my entry has been lots of fun and I feel like I've learned a thing or two about textures.

By the way, I found this free texture at Photos by Gina . To check out more textured photos or submit your own, go to:

Good job! I'm new to layers in elements, myself, just having figured it out over xmas.

While your layer is still 'open', you can take (some of...or all if you wish) the texture away from the face by using the eraser feature (on the left), set at a small opacity so you can make subtle corrections...you can also adjust the size of the eraser, and I have learned you get better results with various sizes and various opacities, so keep adjusting ;D

Hope that helps!!

Beautiful pic! You are going to have to teach me what you're learning in photoshop. I have the program but have yet to dive in!

Tezzie, I get what you're saying, I tried it, and it worked! Thanks so much for the tip. I would have spent hours trying to figure that out on my own.

Michelle, let's make a plan to get together one of these days and we'll play around with it together.

Thanks for leaving me a comment! That was very sweet of you. I heart faces is a great place to learn. I also like

She gives great tutorials. Here she teaches you to use clipping mask.

http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/2009/09/coffeeshop-editing-101-layer-masks.html

It is very similar to using the eraser but I find the eraser doesn't always work the way I want it to. Hope it helps.

Thanks for leaving me such a sweet comment. I had to pop over to see your entry. I love the wonder that you captured in this shot!

You can use layer masks to remove the texture from the face - I think you've received a couple of comments on that above.

Beautiful. I love the warm colour and how the texture adds so much interest to the image.

you did great! if you want, i can explain how to get the texture out of her face. I use Photoshop CS4, but I'm sure it's the same in Elements.
One of my new year's resolutions was to submit a photo ea. week for the I heart faces challenges. So far so good. I look forward to seeing more of your work as you progress! XOXO
