Another Milestone

On Monday I passed another pregnancy milestone: 30 weeks! Here I am Tuesday afternoon starting my 31st week. Finally it's warm enough that I can take these photos outside. Fewer than ten weeks to go...

Big Day

Today is Chad's birthday! Even though he had to work on his big day I think he had a good one. We celebrated a few different times this past week so I'm pretty sure we covered all the party bases. Here we are just before heading to sushi this evening.

Happy Birthday, Chad!

Summer Garden

I'm so happy because this weekend we pulled out our winter crops, tilled the soil, and finally planted our summer garden! We planted four types of tomatoes, a red bell pepper, zucchini squash and a cucumber. We're keeping it simple this summer because I'm not sure how much time we'll have to spend taking care of the plants. We kept three of our broccoli plants from this winter in the box because they're flowering. As soon as the leaves start dying we'll pull them out and pick something else for that area.

And Now for the Dresser

Today we got the dresser for the baby's room. It was ordered the same day we bought the crib, but USA Baby (where we picked it out) didn't have the dresser in stock. We waited patiently for it to arrive and finally got the call on Thursday that it was ready. Now we figured it would be too big for either of our cars so on Sunday when my parents were here with their truck they picked it up for us. Chad and my dad brought it in the house and we all spent a little time getting it out of the box and into the right spot in the room. Fortunately it was already assembled with the exception of two parts: the drawer knobs needed to be secured and the two shelves for the right side of the dresser needed to be put in. Easy assembly if you ask me!

We love the dresser and it matches with our crib perfectly. A BIG thank you to Dad and Mom for buying it and delivering it to our house.

Paper Lanterns

My dad had a meeting here in town so my mom spent the morning at my house. While she was here she hung the paper lanterns I ordered for the baby's room. As you can see I bought one of each of the main colors in the room: orange, green and white. We hung them with coordinating ribbon my mom brought with her. The ribbons weren't what I originally envisioned for the lanterns, but once we got them hung I decided I liked them. The lanterns are fun and they sway in the breeze which will make for entertaining movement for the baby. What do you think?

Crib Skirt? Check!

I set aside this morning to start working on the crib skirt for the baby and by 2:30 this afternoon I finished it. The project wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be and I feel pretty good to have completed it in only one day. One-day projects are the best--especially when you can add in lots of breaks without falling too far behind. I ended up making a very basic crib skirt and it turned out exactly how I hoped. Not perfect, of course, but pretty darn good for a first attempt. The fabric is the same as what we used for the window valance but instead of orange, you'll see that it's green.

Birthday Recap

Yesterday was my birthday (yay!) and I had a great day. In the morning Chad surprised me by planting the rose bushes we bought on Saturday while I was away from home. Very cool. We used to have pink mallow tea trees in our front yard along the garage, but the pesky grasshoppers ate and killed them last fall. Seeing as how most of our neighbors have rose trees in their front yards and that they all seem to be thriving we decided to give those a try. I wanted white roses but we couldn't find them so we ended up with red. And actually, I'm really glad we did. I think the red looks beautiful. Thanks for planting them for me, Chad!

We spent the rest of my birthday with my parents in Visalia. We went out for spaghetti, opened presents, had lemon meringue pie for dessert and had a fun time hanging out. Hard to believe it's over already!

Moving Right Along

My mom spent the day with me today and we were super productive. We got three things done in the baby's room and together they've made a huge difference in the look of the room. First, my mom found an orange rug in Visalia and it looks darling in front of the crib. I've been looking everywhere for one and hadn't found anything even remotely as cute as the rug she found. It's hard to tell from the photo but it's fleece shag. Too cute. Second, we picked out the fabric for the window decor and then made and hung the orange valance in just a couple hours. Actually, my mom told me what to do and I did it on the sewing machine while she hung the curtain rod. And third, we made a cute green photo board and hung it in the room for future baby photos. Thanks to Michelle for the inspiration and advice on how to make it!

All in all it was a productive and very fun day. My self-proclaimed non-crafty Mom did a very good job at tolerating and helping me with my craft projects--and I think she had a little fun doing them too.

Our Baby's Quilt

Last night I finally finished the lap quilt I made for the baby. It was a quick one to make but it took me a long time, thanks many stops and starts this past month. The fabric colors in the quilt ultimately became the inspiration for the colors we chose for the nursery itself--citrus with a hint of turquoise (ie orange, green, yellow and turquoise). I love the color combination and think it'll be a super cute room for either our boy or our girl.

Our Entryway

Well, I finally have the entryway to our home how I'd like it. After over a year and a half of living here the front area feels complete and I'm really happy with it. The missing piece was art for the wall, and that we put up last night. I found a print online that I wanted but was too stubborn to pay for shipping to get it here. My parents surprised us by purchasing it at a store in their local area mountains. Pretty neat, huh?

Please ignore the floppy plant. It doesn't look that pathetic in real life!

Winter Carrots

Chad and I pulled our first round of carrots before dinner tonight and were pleasantly surprised with what we found. Some were really long, others really short and fat, but for the most part they were much better than the crop we planted over the summer. We still have plenty growing in the ground so we'll have enough for a few more dinners.
