Cruisin' for a Bruisin'

After Maggie figured out crawling and pulling up, the next logical step (see what I did there?) was cruising. So late last week that's exactly what she did. She practiced for a few days, then took a short hiatus to feel puke-y and fever-y, (and now is thankfully on the mend) and then back to work on cruising. Whew. For those of you we don't see on a regular basis, here's a sneak peak of her figuring out this leg-moving thing. (And yes I know she's wearing the same onesie she wore in the crawling video. It hasn't been THAT long...)

Weekend Hike

This weekend we found a new hike near the cabin. We read about it in a hiking book earlier in the day so after Maggie's morning nap we put her in our hiking backpack and were on our way. Turns out it was a great trail but maybe a little too soon for us to have taken it. There was still snow on the ground in parts so we had to guess which way the trail headed a few times. We also had to trudge through some thick snow. Thanks to the well-placed markers though we were able to figure out where to go without getting lost. Chad was sick this weekend so he opted out of the hike and chose a long nap instead. My dad wore the backpack and Maggie for the first half of the hike and I tried the getup for the second. It worked slick and we all had lots of fun.

Dancing Machine

This evening Maggie, Chad and I went with our friends to an event called Rock the Mall, a free summertime concert series where local bands play outdoors at a local mall. The kids enjoyed playing in the grass and running around, getting rid of extra energy before bedtime. Maggie crawled around like a maniac and seemed to be looking for trouble every which way. Before we left Chad and Maggie fit in a little dancing and, as usual, Maggie loved every minute of it. Can you tell?

Derby Girl

For Maggie's 10-month birthday we took her to the roller derby. The bout was downtown and featured two teams with skilled skaters: The Atomic Assault (the local girls) and the Prison City Derby Dames. Chad and I have seen the Prison City girls from Chino Hills play here before. Maggie liked the derby and especially loved smiling at the people sitting in the bleachers with us. Because we weren't sure what the crowd was going to be like and because we wanted good seats, the three of us arrived early to the event. Above is a photo of us with the skaters warming up behind us and below is a photo of Chad and Maggie during halftime. When we left for home it was dark and just about Maggie's bedtime.

Here is my entry for this week's contest at I Heart Faces. I know this image is a repeat from yesterday, but I wanted to enter the contest so...    Click the image below to see more awesome photos.

Happy Mother's Day

To everyone who has a mother or is a mother, and especially to my mom and grandma, I hope you have a wonderful day today.

Here's an oldie but goodie from November, 2009.  Happy Mother's Day. We love you!

And an extra special thank you to Maggie for making me a mother. I love you, Mags.

Party of Five

Let's just say Maggie hasn't been in the best mood lately. We couldn't figure out what was going on and why she was feeling grumpy and sensitive about every little thing. This afternoon the mystery was solved. Maggie rarely lets me feel her gums but today I was able to sneak in. When I did I instantly noticed something hard, in fact three hard things: new teeth. Ouch! Poor little thing. If I'd known about it I would have given her cold teethers and some teething tablets to help ease her pain. Ooops.  Let's hope that once these teeth fully pop through she'll be back to her old agreeable self.

We had a busy weekend with a Kentucky Derby party and a BBQ on Saturday and then a park birthday party for our little three year old neighbor today.

Here is how Maggie has felt lately:

And here is what we found, after a bit of tickling, this afternoon:

And here is how Maggie decided to pay back Chad after all that tickling and tooth feeling:
